Dr. Alan N. Schulman graduated from Harvard College and Harvard Medical School. He completed his Internship and Residency at Beth Israel Hospital in Boston, a Harvard teaching hospital. Dr. Schulman participated in two years of hepatitis research at the National Institutes of Health followed by postgraduate training in Gastroenterology and Hepatology at UCLA and the Center for Ulcer Research at the Wadsworth V.A. Hospital in Los Angeles. While in Los Angeles, Dr. Schulman did further research in viral hepatitis, Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis.
Dr. Schulman is Board Certified in both Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology. Dr. Schulman is past Chairman of the Gastroenterology sub-section at Shady Grove Hospital, past Chairman of the Department of Medicine and past President of the Medical Staff, also at Shady Grove Adventist Hospital. Dr. Schulman has seven times been listed in Washingtonian Magazine's "Top Doctors" list.
